Where to Stay in Ayodhya

I recommend staying on the outskirts if you’ve come by vehicle, such as near Chudaman Chowk, where you can park your car and use an auto or rickshaw to visit places. Roads inside are congested, so park your vehicle at the hotel. Alternatively, stay near Ayodhya Dham Railway Station or Tulsi Udyan, as all tourist places are nearby, with good e-rickshaw connectivity, reducing travel hassles and costs. If the crowd is low, hotels cost ₹500-1000; otherwise, ₹1500-3000 per room. Many dharamshalas are also available.

Places to Visit in Ayodhya Dham

Sarayu Ghat (Ram Ki Paidi)

The first place you can visit in Ayodhya is Sarayu Ghat. It is also known as Ram Ki Paidi. This place is situated near Lata Mangeshkar Chowk. I will tell you more about this chowk later in the video. It is believed that all devotees coming to Ayodhya Dham should first come to Sarayu Ghat and after taking a bath here only then should you go to any temple for darshan. At this ghat, Shri Ram Ji and his companions took a bath before departing to their respective lokas. Here you will be able to bathe properly as the water is not deep and you will see many people bathing here. Changing rooms are also built here.

You must come to Sarayu Ghat twice on your Ayodhya trip once in the day for bathing and once in the evening at the time of aarti. In the evening there is also a light show. Along with Sarayu Ghat, you will also see the complete river and you can also enjoy boating. Boating charges are 50 to 100 per person and this complete ride lasts for 20 to 25 minutes. In the morning there is a lot of crowd for boating but after afternoon the crowd decreases.

Hanuman Garhi Temple

The next place you can visit in Ayodhya is Hanuman Garhi. After bathing at Sarayu Ghat, you can come to Hanuman Garhi. The distance from Lata Mangeshkar Chowk to Hanuman Garhi is about 2 km and you can easily get a rickshaw to reach there. At Hanuman Garhi, you can take darshan of Shri Hanuman Ji and seek his permission for Shri Ram Ji’s darshan because Hanuman Ji is considered the protector of Ayodhya Dham.

It is believed that it is mandatory to seek Hanuman Ji’s permission before visiting Shri Ram Ji. On Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday you will see a lot of crowd here due to which it may take around two to three hours for darshan of Hanuman Ji. On the remaining days of the week, the crowd is not so much and you can complete darshan in around 30 to 40 minutes. During festivals also, there is a heavy crowd here. This starting line is for darshan, today is Saturday, and you can see the crowd here.

Dashrath Mahal

After taking Hanuman Ji’s darshan and permission, the next place you can visit is Dashrath Mahal which is present at walking distance from Hanuman Garhi. You can enjoy the divine views of Ayodhya Dham while walking towards Dashrath Mahal.

Here you can take darshan of Shri Ram and Mata Janki Ji. This mahal has a lot of significance because King Dashrath lived here with his family.

Ram Mandir Ayodhya

After darshan here, the next place you can visit in Ayodhya is Ram Mandir. Ram Mandir is situated only 300 meters away from Dashrath Mahal which again you can cover on foot. Before taking darshan of Shri Ram Ji, I would like to tell you some important things.

Mobile phones are not allowed inside the temple so either keep your phone and valuables in the hotel. There may be heavy crowd here as you can see on the screen now. Shri Ram Mandir opens at 7:00 AM in the morning and the last entry is till about 8:00 PM. After standing in the line, you will reach the area where you can submit your shoes. After submitting your shoes you will get a token.

After this, there is a locker facility available free of cost. Around 30 counters of lockers are made here. If there is a heavy crowd, it may take half to one hour here. Locker facility is also available outside the temple for some cost but the locker facility inside the temple is completely free and safe. I recommend you use the lockers inside the temple.

Types of Darshan in Ram Mandir

There are three ways you can take darshan of Shri Ram Ji in Ram Mandir:

  1. Normal Darshan: Simply stand in the line and wait for darshan. On normal days you can take darshan in around 30 to 40 minutes. On weekends or during festivals, it may take around two to three hours or even more. For example, during Kumbh the crowd is very heavy and it may take around 5 to 6 hours.
  2. VIP Darshan: If you don’t have much time and want to take darshan quickly, you can opt for VIP darshan. Its booking has to be done online. The booking link is available in the description box. You need to book around 15 to 20 days in advance. You can show the online booking slip and enter. This darshan takes only 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Wheelchair Facility: This option is only for physically challenged and elderly people. A wheelchair is provided for ₹1 and one person is assigned who takes them inside the temple through the VIP line for darshan.

After darshan, you can collect your belongings from the locker and exit the temple.

Food Options in Ayodhya

After all this, you must be feeling hungry. Now let’s talk about food options in Ayodhya. If you are on a budget tour, you can go to Ram Rasoi near Ram Mandir. For this, you need to go to Amava Mandir which is situated near Shri Ram Mandir. Outside this area too you will get food at very reasonable prices. There are many rasois here and in most of them you will get thali system. A thali will cost around 90 to 100. Apart from this, you will find many more eating options around Ram Mandir.

Queen Heo Memorial Park

The next place you can visit in Ayodhya is Queen Heo Memorial Park which is situated near Lata Mangeshkar Chowk. To enter this park, you need to buy a ticket for ₹10. Parking facility is also available if you are coming with your vehicle. Queen Heo Memorial Park shows the historical link between South Korea and Ayodhya.

It is said that Princess Suri Ratna went to South Korea in 48 AD and married King Kim Suro. That is why Ayodhya is also considered the in-laws’ house of King Kim Suro. To showcase this relation, this Korean park was built in Ayodhya at a cost of around 22 crores.

In this park, you will also see a bridge with Queen’s pavilion at the start and King’s pavilion at the end. A structure of the ship by which Princess Suri Ratna went to Korea is also made here. She also got a golden egg while going to Korea and that structure is also present in the park. The complete story is shown here which you can read by pausing the video.

Surya Kund in Ayodhya

The next place you can visit in Ayodhya is Surya Kund. Surya Kund is situated about 7 km away from Ayodhya city center. You need to take a ticket here. There are two types of tickets — if you only want to see the kund, the ticket is ₹10. If you want to see the light and sound show, the ticket is ₹10 per person.

The light and sound show is very good and tells you about the history of this place. I recommend you to definitely watch it. Surya Kund was constructed by the king of Ayodhya. During excavation before construction, idols were also found here which you can still see today. On entering, you will see beautiful flower structures and a lovely garden. Lights are also beautifully installed on the trees. A temple of Surya Dev is also present here. It is said that if someone has a skin-related problem, bathing in this kund helps cure it.

There is also a playing area for kids with activities and rides. Overall, this area is very peaceful where you can spend good time. In the evening, aarti also takes place here followed by the light and sound show. There are two shows — one at 6:30 PM and another around 7:30 PM. In summers, timing is slightly late.

Lata Mangeshkar Chowk

In the evening, you can also visit Lata Mangeshkar Chowk because the lighting here is very beautiful. This chowk is named as a tribute to the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Here you will see a big statue of Veena which you must have seen on social media sometime.

How to Reach Ayodhya Dham

By Air

You can reach Ayodhya by air through direct flights to Maharishi Valmiki International Airport. The distance from airport to Ayodhya city center is around 10 to 12 km. From there you can easily reach by taxi or bus. All ride-hailing apps also work there.

By Train

There are two railway stations in Ayodhya, Ayodhya Dham railway station and Ayodhya Cantt. You can book a train to either of these. The distance from Ayodhya Dham railway station to city center is around 2 km and from Ayodhya Cantt it is around 15 km. From the station, you can take auto or taxi to reach the city center.

By Road

Ayodhya is well connected by road. You can reach in your own vehicle or you can also get sleeper and semi-sleeper buses from Delhi and many other big cities.

Stay Options in Ayodhya

Now let’s talk about where you can stay in Ayodhya. I recommend that if you are coming by your own vehicle, stay at the outer areas like near Chudamani Chowk. Park your car there and use auto or rickshaw for sightseeing. Inside, the roads are congested so it’s better to park your vehicle at the hotel.

You can also stay near Ayodhya Dham railway station or Tulsi Udyan as all tourist places are nearby and e-rickshaw connectivity is very good which reduces your travel cost. If the crowd is less, you can get hotels between 500 to 1000, otherwise you may have to spend 1500 to 3000 for a room. Apart from this, many dharamshalas are also available.
