After receiving Mahaprasadam, everyone exits through this path. This entire area belongs to the temple, and construction work is ongoing here. Before leaving there are separate toilets for ladies and gents.

the temple committee has built a beautiful park right next to it. There’s also a small

stunning temple here. Look at these beautiful fish. And here, another statue of Lord Shiva has been installed. There’s a market on the front side of the temple so we decided to check it out. After exploring the market, we headed to see another part of the temple.

Restricted Temple Area for Women

when you get off the bus and head toward the temple, on the left side at the start there’s another part of the temple. It’s believed that women and girls are not allowed in this section because some saints attained samadhi here after intense penance. Only men can enter and have darshan here. Cameras are not allowed beyond this point so I can’t take you further. After returning from there, right across is the Bahubali Temple and we’re heading there now.

Bahubali Temple and Its History

You can reach the Bahubali Temple by climbing the steps or taking the road. you can take an auto, which charges ₹20 per person. Upon reaching, you get to see that beautiful view of nature, and here stands the 39-foot-tall statue of Lord Bahubali. When you go inside and learn about the history of Lord Bahubali. Vrishabhanatha was a noble king of Ayodhya and had many children one of whom was Bahubali. When he renounced the world he divided his kingdom among his children. His eldest son, Bharat became the king of Ayodhya, while Bahubali, the younger prince, ruled over Paithalpur.

Once, a powerful weapon a chakra emerged from Bharat’s arsenal, and with it he conquered all six continents. However the chakra wouldn’t enter the capital. Upon inquiry he learned that his conquest was incomplete until he defeated all his brothers. He sent messengers to his brothers asking them to surrender. Most complied, but Bahubali being very self-respecting, challenged Bharat. A fierce war was about to erupt but their friends intervened to avoid bloodshed and devised a non-violent contest.

In this contest Bahubali defeated Bharat. Angered Bharat attacked Bahubali with the chakra but since the chakra couldn’t violate dharma it bowed before Bahubali. Seeing Bharat’s greed for power, Bahubali felt ashamed, handed over his kingdom to his brother and went to the forest for penance. He performed intense penance for years during which vines grew over his body, causing him pain. Despite years of penance he couldn’t attain supreme knowledge because he still held a grudge that he was standing on his brother’s land.

When Bharat learned this he went to Bahubali, touched his feet, apologized and said “The kingdom isn’t mine; everything belongs to you.” After this Bahubali attained supreme knowledge and became the first person in the Krita Yuga to attain moksha (liberation). That’s why Lord Bahubali is worshipped as a deity. when you visit Dharmasthala make sure to have darshan of Lord Bahubali as well
