Palani Murugan Temple is one of the most sought after Temple in Tamil Nadu where the god of war and victory Lord Murugan is worshiped. Rope car timings at Palani Murugan temple
But for the tourists the Rope Car that ferries visitors to the Palani Murugan Temple situated at the top of the hill is quite easily accessible. The rope car operates from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm daily. It give a view of the surrounding environment as it moves up the hill; this should make the movement across the site enjoyable for every coming visitor. The price for the ticket to the rope car is very low when compared to other attractions. The round trip for any passenger costs ₹100. Ropeway Challenges
It takes two hours just to get a ticket for the ropeway. This is just the line outside. There’s a shed, look, everyone is sitting inside the shed. They’ve strictly written that mobile phones are not allowed up, and they’ve given clear information about where the deposit counters are. Now I’m going to the steps in this buggy. Steps to the Temple

Regarding the history of Palani Kshetra, long ago, Lord Parameshwara announced a competition for the position of Vighnadhipatya. He said that whichever of his two sons visits all the sacred places on earth and returns first will be given the title. Kumara Swamy, riding his peacock vehicle, sets out to earth, while Vinayaka, unable to travel that fast, says that his parents, Parvati and Parameshwara, are equivalent to all sacred places in the three worlds. He performs pada puja to them and stays in Kailasa, chanting their names.
Mythological Story
However, Kumara Swamy, after bathing in various sacred places, notices that his elder brother has already visited them before him. By the time he reaches Kailasa, he sees that his elder brother is already there. Feeling slightly upset that Vighnadhipatya went to his elder brother, he becomes dejected and comes to earth. Kumara Swamy, who came to earth, performed penance on this Shivagiri in Palani Kshetra.
Origin of Palani’s Name
To console their upset son, Parvati and Parameshwara come from Kailasa to Palani and pacify Kumara Swamy, saying, “Son, you are the fruit of knowledge.” On this Shivagiri, he attained knowledge, and as the fruit of knowledge (Jnana Phalam), it became Phalani, which transformed into Palani Kshetra. This place has many other specialties. It is said that Shivagiri and Shakti Giri here were brought from the Himalayas by a demon named Idumbudu.
Significance of the Idol
In ancient times, sages made this idol with nine types of toxic substances called Navapashanas. This idol is so special that it was believed that consuming the vibhuti (sacred ash) from this idol would cure any disease. However, over time, distributing that prasadam to everyone has been prohibited. Here, the Lord appears as Dandapani, wearing a kaupina (loincloth), teaching us that those who reach him must come having renounced everything. This imparts the knowledge of detachment.
Best Time for Darshan
To fully appreciate the beauty of the Lord’s idol, visit early in the morning for the abhisheka darshan. Don’t miss this darshan. I’ve just finished my darshan and come down. Pavan Kumar Sharma explained the history, right? Here are some tips. There are two step routes to go up. One is the main steps, over 650 steps. Apart from that, there’s another route with 1,008 steps. If you take that route, even if you’re five minutes late, you can easily reach the top.
Darshan Experience and Tips
It took three and a half hours to go up, have darshan, and come back, including the queue time. There’s a ₹10 ticket and a ₹100 ticket. I took the ₹100 ticket, and it still took this long. Just like Tirupati laddu is famous, Palani panchamritham is equally famous here. It’s available for ₹20, ₹40, and ₹45, with different quantities but the same prasadam. Don’t forget to buy Palani panchamritham.

Opposite the steps, there are many hotels, including a government-run hotel and private ones. Rooms start from ₹600, available online or offline. Be careful and check before booking. Opposite the steps, there are shops where you can buy what you need. There are small hotels too, and rooms are available. As for food, Tamil food is prominent. The people of Tamil Nadu consider the Palani Murugan Temple a very important temple.
