Sahasra Deepalankarana Seva Tirumala 2025 : Process, Bookings, Timings

Unjal Seva Sahasra Deepalankarana Seva is one of the most important dailies at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, which is conducted each day at Unjal Mandapam found in the southeast corner of the Srivari Temple. The speciality of this seva, which is the only seva outside the temple, is that the 1000 lamps with a wick (known as the 1,000-lamp ceremony) are placed to ornament the 1001 god statues of Sri Malayappa Swami, Sridevi and Bhudevi, to chase away the darkness and invite the divine light. The deities are carried in a procession and are placed on a swing in incredibly divine atmosphere with Vedic chants and Annamayya Sankirtanas.

Some of the dances are done in groups and sometimes they are provided by Karnataka. The event takes a period of 50-60 minutes, and then a procession through the four Mada streets follows. The people who come in order to view Darshan use the Supatham Entrance, and later join the Rs.300 queue in. The tickers cost Rs.200 which consists of small lamp and cloth or blouse piece as prasad. One can book online, at the ttdsevaonline.com or at the CRO office, 125 tickets to be released on a monthly basis. A strict dress code (men: dhoti/kurta; women: saree/chudidhar) is enforced.

What is the Process of the Tirumala Sahasra Deepalankara Seva

  1. A procession moves through the main temple bringing the idols of Sri Malayappa Swami, Sridevi and Bhudevi into the Unjal Mandapam.
  2. The gods are decorated with 1,000 wick lamps and this is thought to represent the driving away of darkness and bringing of divine light. These oil lamps help in lighting the mandapam and in the process, a soothing atmosphere is created.
  3. The deities are placed on a swing (unjal). Priests perform the ritual with Vedic chants, accompanied by Annamayya Sankirtanas (devotional songs). Sometimes there is a dance between cultural groups and these dances are usually Karnataka origin giving a further sense of spirituality.
  4. Seva can take around 50-60 minutes, and commonly happens between 5.30 PM and 6.30 PM.
  5. After seva the gods are taken in a huge procession around the four Mada streets, which border the temple.
  6. Ticket-holders (Rs. 200 each) witness the seva from designated areas in the Unjal Mandapam. Upon the exit of the ritual they will pass towards darshan through the Supatham Entrance and join the Rs. 300 ticket queue. Darshan takes about 30–60 minutes.
  7. As prasadam, devotees are offered 2 small laddus and a piece of silk cloth or blouse.
