The Sanwariya Seth Temple is located in Mandphiya village, Chittorgarh, a land known for devotion, strength, and sacrifice in Rajasthan. Sanwariya Seth is believed to be connected to Meerabai. According to legends, Sanwariya Seth is the same Girdhar Gopal whom Meerabai worshipped. Meerabai used to travel with saints, carrying idols with her. One such group of saints, led by a saint named Dayaram, had these idols. During the Mughal era, when Aurangzeb’s army was destroying temples and reached the Mewar region, the Mughal soldiers learned about the idols.
To protect them, Saint Dayaram buried the idols in a pit under a banyan tree in an open field. After his passing, years later in 1840, a cowherd named Bholaram Gurjar from Mandphiya village had a dream that four idols were buried in the field of Badsoda Bangur. When the area was excavated, his dream proved true, and four identical idols were found. The news spread quickly, and people from nearby areas gathered there.
With everyone’s consensus, the largest of the four idols was taken to Badsoda village. A renowned saint, Pujari Bhagat, lived there, and under his guidance, the Bhindar Thikana of the Udaipur Mewar royal family constructed the Sanwaliya Seth Temple. This is the oldest temple and is known as the Sanwaliya Seth Ancient Temple. The second-largest idol was installed at the excavation site, now called the Prakat Sthal Temple.
