The Halasuru Someshwara Temple, located in Ulsoor, Bangalore, Karnataka, is one of the city’s oldest temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Dating back to the Chola period (12th-13th centuries), it was significantly modified during the Vijayanagara Empire under Hiriya Kempe Gowda II in the 16th century. The temple showcases Vijayanagara architecture with intricate carvings, a square sanctum (garbhagriha), and a towering eastern gopuram adorned with sculptures of Hindu deities. The great aspects are 48 pillars on the carvings of mythology, Yali pillars, carvings of Ravana lifting Mount Kailash, Durga killing Mahishashura, and marriage between Shiva and Parvati.

Other deities worshipped include Kamakshamma, Arunachaleswara, and Panchalingeswara. A recent excavation uncovered a 1,200-year-old temple tank (kalyani). The temple is under the administration of the Muzarai department and these festivals celebrated include Mahashivaratri and Brahmotsavam. Tourists are requested to dress decently and the use of photography is prohibited indoors. Located in the metro station of Halasuru, the temple is both spiritual and architectural treasure that most devotees visit and tourists attractions due to its historical meaning and peaceful environment.
