A Perspective On The temple

The Antarvedi Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is one of the nine Narasimha Kshetras in the Telugu states. It is located in Antarvedi town in the Konaseema district. Here the idol of Lord Narasimha is available in this temple who can be seem as one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The temple is situated at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Vasishta Godavari a tributary of the Godavari River. Antarvedi town is surrounded by the Godavari River making it resemble an island, with the sea on one side and the river on the other three sides.

Travel Routes to Antarvedi/How To Reach

To reach Antarvedi from Palakollu town there are two routes available: one by road and the other by boat. To get to Antarvedi you need to cross the Godavari River. One route has a bridge for vehicles, while the other requires crossing the river by boat. The boat route is shorter in distance, which is why we chose it.

Boat Route Charges

For crossing the river by boat, the charge for a two-wheeler with one person is ₹35, with an additional ₹20 for each extra person. For a car the charge is ₹200, which includes free entry for one person, but ₹20 is charged for each additional person in the car. We were a group of three, and we were charged a total of ₹240. I felt the charges were quite high. If you want to experience crossing the river by boat, take this route; otherwise, the road route is a better option. On our return, we took the road route. Boats are available every 15 minutes, and it takes about five minutes to cross the river.

Scenic Beauty of the Boat Route

The visuals along the boat route to Antarvedi are stunning. For first-time visitors, these visuals are quite surprising and delightful. Everywhere you look, there are coconut trees, and along this route, you can see fish ponds spread across thousands of acres.

Kalyana Utsavam Of the Antarvedi Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

The west gopuram is a five-story structure. when in kalyanam Utsavathe entire gopuram is covered with scaffolding for lighting, making it difficult to clearly view the sculptures on top. Every year in February, the Kalyana Utsavam of the deity is celebrated attracting thousands of devotees. There are shops selling puja materials and Cheppal stands on this side. There are also taps for devotees to wash their feet. Opposite the west gopuram there is a large hall where the Kalyana Utsavam is conducted. When there are no festivals, devotees can rest here, and weddings can also be performed in this hall.

Timings

The temple timings are from 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Annadanam (free food distribution) is conducted daily in the temple.

Special entry to the Temple

The special entry costs ₹100, and the laddoo prasadam is priced at ₹15. Free darshan entry is from this side, and with a ₹1 ticket, you can go directly inside.

This temple was first built in the 16th century during the Pallava dynasty. The current temple we see was constructed in 1883 by Kapanaati Krishnamma and has been regularly maintained since then. Due to the recent Kalyana Utsavam, the temple has been freshly painted, making it look very colorful.

Other Shrines in the Temple

Here, you’ll find the shrine of Sri Vikanasa Acharya and on the other side, there is a Yagashala. In all Narasimha Swamy temples the idol faces east but in this temple alone the deity faces west. Here Bhakta Anjaneya (Hanuman) and on the other side there is a Garuda idol. Those with special tickets are allowed inside the garbhagriha, but free darshan devotees are not permitted. Before the garbhagriha there is the shrine of Kodanda Rama Swamy
